Every little bit helps as Festival 2018 Chairman promotes 'small giving'

In his recent visits to Lodges and Chapters Denis Stubley, Chairman of Festival 2018 has been asking members to consider holding small fund raising events such as regular raffles or small auctions at their meetings.

Most lodges raise small amounts of money regularly at their meetings which is often put at the disposal of the Charity Steward and directed towards local charities. Whilst local charities should benefit from Masonic support, the focus for lodges for the next four years should be towards Festival 2018. In this Province we still have Provincial Grand Charity, which is a separate body to Festival 2018 and which has substantial funds at it's disposal to support any local charity within Province during the period of Festival.

If every lodge in our Province were to hold a raffle at each meeting that raised approaching £100 it would produce an amount for the Festival approaching £300,000 over the remaining three years of our appeal. This would be a massive contribution to the needs of the MSF and Yorkshire North and East Festival 2018 total.

Sale of Regalia kindly donated by brethren of the Province

Jonathan Smith as Vice Chair of Festival 2018 (kneeling centre) received a cheque for £750.00 for Festival 2018 from the Worshipful Master Bill Hartley (Standing centre) of the Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No.9611, at their meeting at Connaught Court on Saturday 29th November. All the money has been raised by the sale of regalia kindly donated by the brethren of this Province.

Many of the items donated have some wonderful and colourful stories associated with it, not least the characters who wore it. A feeling of continuing with the history of our fraternity in recycling this ornate visual representation of our endeavour is reward for the new and past wearer alike.

Nigel Wales at Filey has worked extremely hard in collating the many items which include many of the Masonic Orders and welcomes ‘new’ old stock at any time. There are contact details for Nigel in all Lodge buildings or speak with any Craft Steward if you have Regalia to donate or exchange.

The glorious 12th or thereabouts

The Ridings Tablers Lodge hosted a Clay Pigeon Shoot and picnic on Sunday August 17th at Brandesburton organised by Ian Hughes. A very successful day with and equal mix of masonic and non-masonic guests taking part and from experienced to novice. The Youngest Gun of the day was 11 year old Megan Ferguson and the oldest gun, Peter Collinson ably assisted by his grandson Nick. Top gun was of course Ian Hughes and all attending wondered just whether or not they had been invited to witness his prowess? A great mornings shoot followed by a picnic at one of the participants nearby house. A bonus to it all being that the competition raised £100 for Festival 2018.
